When my 37-year-old client came to see me, she was stuck in a cycle of severe bloating and unpredictable diarrhoea that impacted every part of her life. Her stomach often felt painfully stretched with gas, to the point where she said she felt that she looked pregnant. The bloating would wake her at night, made clothes feel uncomfortable during the day, and dictated what she could wear.

Even more distressing was the constant worry about diarrhoea—she felt anxious leaving the house or going on holiday, always fearing an accident. Despite seeing a private consultant, she was told there was “nothing wrong” and advised to manage her symptoms with Imodium and continue eating as usual.
Her Goals Were Clear:
To no longer feel bloated and uncomfortable every day
To stop worrying about diarrhoea when out or at work
To feel energised, rather than exhausted
To simply enjoy food again
She had already identified that certain foods triggered her symptoms: onions, garlic, dairy, gluten, beans, and lentils. Her stools were often green, pointing to sluggish bile flow. She felt increasingly fatigued and found it hard to switch off from her busy job (which she loved), often lying awake with her mind racing.
She was also a real foodie—with a wonderfully supportive husband who was happy to cook. I provided a range of gut-friendly, anti-inflammatory recipes that they could both enjoy without triggering her symptoms. This made the changes feel enjoyable and sustainable—not overly restrictive.
What We Did:
Balanced her blood sugar by shifting from constant grazing to three satisfying meals rich in protein, fibre, healthy fats, and antioxidants—to support energy and gut health.
Introduced gut-healing foods and supplements, while removing key trigger foods. Once symptoms calmed, we slowly reintroduced foods in a strategic, structured way to build tolerance.
Focused on digestive support through mindful eating—chewing thoroughly, eating in a relaxed state, staying hydrated, and using herbal teas to stimulate digestive enzyme flow.
Improved bile flow to support healthy stool colour and better fat digestion.
Supported the gut microbiome with targeted foods and supplements to reduce bloating and encourage regular, well-formed bowel movements.
Addressed the gut-brain connection using gut-directed hypnotherapy via a simple app, helping her tune into stress triggers and bring more calm into her day.
The Results
Her transformation has been incredible. The bloating that once kept her up at night is now rare. She can wear the clothes she loves again and feels confident making plans without worrying about urgent dashes to the toilet.
Her energy has noticeably improved, and she now knows exactly what to do if bloating ever creeps back—what foods to focus on, what to avoid, and which self-care strategies help most.
Best of all, she’s looking forward to travelling again—without fear.
